Knowler’s ‘The Earl of Strafforde’s Letters and Despatches with an essay towards his life by Sir George Radcliffe’, 2 vols, Dublin, 1740. Folio size. Library binding – overall condition very good. Thomas Wentworth, 1st Earl of Strafford (1593-1641) served as Lord Deputy of Ireland 1632-40. He was recalled to England as advisor to Charles I in 1640. He was condemned to death by Parliament in 1641. Charles acquiesced and signed the death warrant.
