Red and black text, full page plate etc.Full calf with gilt tooled decoration, central vacant crest surrounded by borders and the spine with five raised bands. Gilt and patterned page edges. Folio. MBE (OBE): UK WW1. An excellent condition 5th class Member's (M.B.E.) 1st type breast badge with English silver hallmarks on reverse, for London, 1917 (gothic letter 'B'). This is an item of insignia struck in the very first year of the award (the Order of the British Empire was only instituted in 1917), and which would have been used on awards in 1917 and 1918. The insignia is complete with: - Plush leatherette hinged case of issue. The inside silk panel with King's Crown & 'Garrad & Co Ltd' logo, and with title of award in gilt tooling on outer lid - The silk medal riband retaining its original mounting brooch, this latter with hinged pin & clasp fittings as issued All such awards during the Great War, regardless of whether military or civilian, had the same general issue insignia, ribands and cases of issue up to December 1918. It was only then - more than a month after the 'Armistice', that the statutes were amended with the creation of separate Military and Civil divisions, with insignia issued thereafter having either military or civil ribands

Labour in Irish History by James Connolly, published by Maunsel Dublin 1910. A first edition written when Connolly was a union official, he argues that independence from Britian would do little for the majority of Irish people. Rough cut pages there are no stamps or plates. James Connolly was executed for his part in the 1916 rising.
