Large quarto, 2 vols bound in 1, every page with a wood engraved pictorial border surrounding the text, engraved plates, striking binding with very thick boards which are deeply blocked and very richly decorated in gilt and with at the centres a large gilt pictorial depiction of mother Ireland supporting a portrait of O’Connell, a banner proclaiming ‘Catholic Emancipation’ as well as a wolfhound, harp, round tower, etc. Massive brass clasps, lacks the first title page, front board detached, gilt portraits of Irish national heroes on spine. A nationalist shrine.
