REYNOLDS, Horace. A Providence Episode in the Irish Literary Renaissance. Providence: The Study Hill Club, 1929. First edition. 8vo. Quarter black linen on green marbled boards, title in gilt on spine. Edition limited to 300 copies (Number One). Top edge cut, others deckled. Fine copy. When the author met the poet, W.B. Yeats, the first thing Yeats enquired about was: "Is a paper I used to write for years ago called the Providence Journal still in existence?". This sparked Reynolds's interest in its editor, Alfred Williams and he resolved to explore the Journal and the link between Providence and Dublin. Alfred Williams spent three months in Ireland reporting on the Fenians for the New York Herald. That period of his life stirred in him what was to be a life-long interest in Ireland, her people, history and literature. This work contains several references to W. B. Yeats, George Moore, Katharine Tynan, Douglas Hyde, and all those involved in the Irish Literary Renaissance
